Term 3 Roundup!

Wow! What a busy term we have had here in Primary 4 / 5!

It does not seem like long ago we were returning from the Christmas holidays and making our 2018 new year’s resolutions. Now here we are stepping into Spring!

At the start of the term we focused on comparing Scotland and France. We learnt about Scottish myths and legends, landmarks and monuments. We also had lots of in class practice for the Burns poetry competition, which Ruaraidh won overall for our class. Well done! Scots vocabulary was fun to learn too, such as ‘braw’ and ‘dreich’. We also took the opportunity to create Scottish themed artwork, for example watercolour thistles, flags, weaved kilts and a poster competition for the Edinburgh Fringe.

We have been enjoying our new Scottish novel study ‘The Sound of Whales’, set on an imaginary island in the North West of Scotland. We look forward to finding out what happens next! We will continue solving the mystery next term...

This term in maths we have been focusing on data handling so have had lots of practice of reading pie charts, graphs, tables and diagrams. We have also drawn and labelled our own. Our mental maths number strategies are also getting sharper!

Our gymnastics skills have also been sharpened too. We have been improving our balance and coordination by practising gymnastics skills and performing sequences.

Throughout the term we have had lots of chances to write imaginative stories, reports and letters. We all wrote a great newspaper report about Clydemuir’s International Week at the beginning of February. We were lucky to receive a visitor from the Chinese Confucius Institute who intrigued us with fantastic facts about his country. African drummers visited too and we had a fantastic morning drumming and dancing with Bruno and Eric. We followed this up with some tribal African art. Mrs Gibson also kindly gave us a talk about her time spent teaching in Malawi. We were fascinated to find out about the lives of school children there.

In February we raised awareness for the NSPCC with a dress down day, we learnt about how Chinese New Year is celebrated and we were lucky enough to be visited by the Scholastic Book Fair. We had nearly a week of paired reading activities with P2. Who would have expected the amount of snow that then visited us?! Unfortunately our World Book Day was cancelled but thankfully we got to celebrate it a couple of weeks later!

After our hugely successful effort at the Dance Festival one evening in Clydebank Leisure Centre we then taught the WHOLE SCHOOL our dance all day during Sports Relief last Friday!

Lately we have been busy with our Science topic discovering facts about exciting electricity. We have been making circuits in class and learning about where electricity comes from. We got the chance to visit Glasgow Science Centre at the start of this week and found all the exhibits fun and the Planetarium spectacular!

Phew… I think after that we deserve a chocolate-filled holiday!

Happy Easter everyone

from all in Primary 4 / 5, Miss Young and Miss Tulloch!
